French State Railway Z 24500 and Z 26500 and Luxembourg Railways series 2200

In 2000, several regional TER divisions ordered the first sets from the Alstom Coradia Duplex family. They were the successors of the Z 23500, were built to be electrically compatible with these and could also operate under 1.5 kV DC and 25 kV AC. While their predecessors were called “TER 2N”, they were called “TER 2N NG”, what stood for commuter traffic, double-deck and new generation.

One bogie of each car has two 425 kW traction motors. Eleven two-car and 134 three-car sets were built as Z 24500. All two-car sets were also completed with a central trailer in 2003. 42 four-car and 24 five-car sets are being designated Z 26500. Production ended in 2010 and in late 2004, the first ones were modernized. Additionally to the French Z 24500, the CFL in Luxembourg ordered 22 three-car sets. In Sweden, the SJ X40 is also a part of the Coradia Duplex family.
