New South Wales class V

The V sets are double-decker electric multiple units built from 1970 by Comeng. They feature a skin of corrugated iron and fronts made of glass fiber reinforced plastic. Production included power cars with cabs, unpowered driving trailers and unpowered trailers. Each power car has four 150 kW traction motors. Sets are usually composed of two power cars at the ends and two unpowered cars in the middle.

Some unpowered driving trailers later even lost their cab equipment since they were only used in the middle of a set. Starting in 1987, some were used with a top speed of 130 instead of 115 km/h on a trial basis. The first ones were withdrawn in 2005 and today, only later sets built after 1977 are in service.
