Alstom Coradia Stream
Dutch Railways ICNG, Italian State Railway ETR 103 and ETR 104 “Pop”, and Danish State Railways ES “IC5”
The Coradia Stream is a modular electric multiple unit for commuter, regional and intercity service with a top speed between 120 and 200 km/h. Each train is being composed of three to ten cars which are connected by Jacobs bogies. They can be ordered with two different entry heights and with equipment for a selection of all four standard European power systems.
The launch customers were the Dutch NS and the Italian Trenitalia. NS designates them ICNG (“Intercity Nieuwe Generatie”) and uses five- or eight-car trains with a top speed of 200 km/h. Trenitalia calls them “Pop”. They are either being operated as the three-car ETR 103 or the four-car ETR 104, both with a top speed of 160 km/h. Three regional operators in Italy also use these trains, with the Ferrovie Nord Milano (FNM) currently introducing a hydrogen fuel cell powered variant.
In Denmark, DSB uses five-car trains with a top speed of 200 km/h under the marketing name IC5, which are designated class ES. Operators in Austria, Bulgaria and Romania have ordered variants for a top speed of 160 km/h. Finally, the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya in Spain have ordered these trains for traffic between the airport and central of Barcelona, which are limited to 120 km/h.
