The leasing company Angel Trains was the first customer for the Desiro MainLine to order 16 units with an option for a further 84. Ultimately, 17 trains for Trans Regio were called up for use on the MittelrheinBahn. The trains each consist of three cars, each with two separate bogies. With a traction motor on eight of twelve axles, an output of 2,600 kW is available. No further Desiro MLs were sold in Germany, but three-digit numbers were sold to Belgium and Austria. Some sets registered in Austria are also used by the German ODEG.
