For use as ÖBB Cityjet, the Desiro ML is being used as a three-car train since 2015. The variant for the S-Bahn is designated as class 4744 and the variant for regional trains as class 4746. Since the trains are also suitable for operation under 25,000 volts, they are also used by the Hungarian-Austrian Raaberbahn (GySEV). Some of the class 4746 trains registered in Austria are used by the East German Railway (ODEG). From 2023, four-car trains will be used on the Vorarlberg S-Bahn as class 4748, which will serve as a replacement for Bombardier Talent 3 which have not been delivered.
