Dutch Railways ICM “Koploper”

These multiple units, the prototypes of which were built in 1977, still provide an important part of intercity services in the Netherlands. The designation ICM stands for “Intercitymaterieel”, but the trains are better known under the name “Koploper” (“head runner”) due to the gangways at the ends. The car body part comes from Talbot in Aachen, the electrical part from Oerlikon and Holec. The first three series each consist of three cars with two powered bogies and the last two series of four cars with three powered bogies. From 2006, they were modernized technically and an in the interior and have since been referred to as ICMm.
