In 1846, Maffei of Munich built six 4-4-0 freight locomotives for the Northern State Railway. They were characterized by inside frames, outside cylinders and valve gear, an overhanging firebox and a tall steam dome. They got the numbers 61 to 66 and were named after the towns Wyschrad (Vysehrad), Aussig, Josefstadt, Franzensbrunn, Niemes and Marienbad. In 1855 they came to the StEG and were called series IIIf from 1873. “Marienbad” was retired in the same year, but the other five came to the MÁV in 1891 and were called IIq.
