At a time when other railways were changing from two-cylinder simples to two-cylinder compounds, the StEG built a three-cylinder compound 4-4-0 in their own shops. It was completed in 1897 and originally numbered 144. But in the same year, the new scheme made it class 25, with the number 2501. It had drivers of 2,120 mm and a long driving wheelbase of 2,800 mm to ensure good running characteristics. However, its compound system was not convincing so that it was soon used as a two-cylinder simple without its central cylinder working. When the StEG was nationalized in 1907, this single locomotive became kkStB class 506. After World War I, it was still in service in Czechoslovakia. The ČSD used it as 264.301 until 1926.
