From 1954, these multiple units shaped the image of Dutch railways and were known as “Hondekop” (“dog snout”) because of their appearance. From 1968 they received the well-known yellow livery. There were two-car trains in which one bogie was powered in each car and four-car trains in which all axles in both end cars were powered. In addition to a total of 141 trains from the Dutch State Railways, the Belgian State Railways received twelve trains that were also operational under 3,000 volts. The decommissioning took place between 1989 and 1996.
