Kintetsu Railway classes 22000 and 16400 “Ace”

Under the name “Ace”, Kintetsu Railway operates two classes of limited express EMUs on their standard and Cape gauge lines. For standard gauge, the class 22000 introduced in 1992 consists of 15 four-car and 13 two-car sets which are being powered on all axles. They can reach a top speed of 130 km/h and have GTO thyristors. For Cape gauge, there are only two two-car sets which are called class 16400 and were built in 1996. Here, only one of the cars is being powered on all axles and has a IGBT thyristor, while the other car is only a trailer with a driving compartment. These sets only have a top speed of 110 km/h. Starting in 2015, all trains were refurbished.
