Buffalo, Rochester & Pittsburgh class F4

The class F4 of the BR&P designated 0-8-0 switchers which were built by ALCO-Brooks. They had cylinders of 22 by 28 inches and drivers of 51 inches. With a boiler pressure of 185 psi, this resulted in a starting tractive effort of 42,000 pounds. A first batch of five was built in March 1918 which weighed 207,000 pounds. Four more were built in June of the same year which weighed 230,000 pounds. The last nine followed only in July 1923 which were again 1,000 pounds heavier. In 1932, when the BR&P came to the Baltimore & Ohio, whey became class L-4. The two heavier batches were designated L-4a. Later they seem to have been rebuilt with cylinders of 24.5 inches in diameter and drivers of 52 inches, resulting in a tractive effort of 51,000 pounds. They were scrapped between 1956 and 1958.
