Cascade Timber Co. No. 108 and Shay C-90-3

The Shay with the works number 3254 was a 90-ton three-truck model that had many owners in its lifetime of more than 100 years. It was delivered in November 1924 to Cascade Timber Co. in Reliance, Washington and became their number 108. The oil burner carried 1,500 gallons of fuel and 3,500 gallons of water. With three cylinders of 14.5 by 15 inches and a gear ratio of 2.05, it generated a tractive effort of 40,407 pounds. Total weight with a filled boiler and full supplies was 106 and a half tons.

Starting in 1936, it was temporarily leased or loaned to Columbia Construction Co., Long-Bell Lumber Co. and Standard Logging Co., all in Washington or Oregon. From 1952, it became Number 8 of Pickering Lumber Co. in Standard, California. There it spent the rest of its commercial life until 1967. After that, it came to Oregon and passed through the hands of railfans George and Wall Malarkey and Fred Kepner. In December 2021 it was acquired by the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad and waits for its restoration.
