Iraqi Republic Railways class Z
Irak 1955 20 produced
In 1955, Maschinenfabrik Esslingen supplied ten oil-fired metre-gauge Mikados to the Iraqi Republic Railways which carried the works numbers 5153 to 5162. Additionally, they built a spare boiler that was numbered 5163. In the following year, they delivered ten more and one more spare boiler, now numbered 5189 to 5199. In Iraq, they became class Z and were numbered 81 to 100. Their driver diameter and cylinder stroke was identical to the class Y delivered by Vulcan Foundry in 1953, which were based on the Indian class YD. But the cylinder diameter was one inch greater and the boiler was much bigger. Numbers 89, 95 and 96 are known for being withdrawn in March 1967.
