Tonopah & Goldfield No. 1 and 2

In 1901, Baldwin built two three-foot gauge Moguls of their type 8-26-D for the Chateaugay Railroad in Upstate New York. They got the numbers 15 and 16 and were needed for the iron-making operations of the Chateaugay Iron Company. Unfortunately, 1901 was also the year when the Delaware and Hudson had acquired this line and started to convert it to standard gauge. 

Since these locomotives were optimal for steep lines with tight curves, they were instead delivered to the Tonopah Railroad in Nevada. There they became numbers 1 and 2 and entered service until the company became the Tonopah and Goldfield Railroad and also started to convert the line to standard gauge. 

In 1906, they were sold again to the Sumpter Valley Railway. There they still carried the numbers 1 and 2 which had been taken over by two older Moguls from 1881 also built by Baldwin which had come from the Utah & Northern Railway. The two new locomotives stayed in service until around 1930.
