Minarets & Western No. 102 to 104

The Sugar Pine Lumber Company had founded the Minarets & Western Railway to operate a main line that connected their saw mill over 53 miles with the network of the Southern Pacific. This railroad and its parent mostly ordered their locomotives from ALCO-Brooks, and also the three Mikados No. 102 to 104 came from this company. They were delivered in 1923 and were considerably heavier than No. 101 that had come two years earlier. They had 52-inch drivers and cylinders of 24.5 by 28 inches. Their tender had a capacity of 10,000 gallons of water and ten tons of coal.

The parent company went bankrupt in 1933 and two years later, all four locomotives of the Minarets & Western were sold to the Southern Pacific. Numbers 102 and 104 were used as switchers and got the numbers 3295 and 3296. The first one was retired in 1953, while the second one had already been sold to Long-Bell Lumber in 1940. 103 had directly been sold again to the Chicago & Illinois Midland and never received a Southern Pacific number. It was scrapped in 1954.
