Deutsche Werke Kiel 360 C

The DWK 360 C was a three-axle diesel-mechanical locomotive mainly built for the Wehrmacht. It was also designated WR 360 C 15, although it had an axle load of 17 tonnes. Its prototype was the D 350 with a central cab, but the production model had the cab on one end. Furthermore, its running characteristics were improved with a crank axle that was located between two axles and not on one end like on the D 350. The gearbox had four gears and the final drive could be switched between a top speed of 30 and 60 km/h. In comparison to its more successful diesel-hydraulic sister WR 360 C 14, it had a lower hood that led to better visibility.

Twelve were built for the Ministry of Aviation, six for the Navy and one for the Oderbruch Railway between 1940 and 1944. After the war, eight came to the Bundesbahn and became V 36 301, 311 to 315 and 317 to 318. In the fifties they were sold to private railways, six of them to the Mindener Kreisbahn. Some of these were rebuilt with a new engine and other improvements and they were used until the seventies. The East German Reichsbahn received five of which four were numbered V 36 050 to 053 and the fifth one was used as a donor for spare parts. The last one was withdrawn in 1969. Four have been preserved.
