The designation Ge 4/4III stood for two electric four-axle locomotives ordered by the Furka Oberalp Railway for car trains in the Furka Base Tunnel. They were based on the RhB Ge 4/4II, but were built to be cheaper. Since the FO did not operate previous Ge 4/4 generations, they did not use the number “III” in their designation. Like the RhB locomotives, the FO locomotives had an output of 1,700 kW and a top speed of 90 km/h. They were used with push-pull trains which consisted of a locomotive, a number of car transporters and a driving trailer on the other end. The first locomotive was withdrawn in 2015 and the other in 2023.
