The vehicles that the Dutch State Railways use as SNG are a variant of the model Civity from the Spanish manufacturer CAF. The abbreviation stands for “Sprinter Nieuwe Generatie” (“Sprinter new generation”), which comes from its use in the Sprinter train type. The trains each consist of three or four parts that are connected by Jakobs bogies. Depending on the length of the train, two or three bogies are powered, resulting in an output of 1,600 or 2,400 kW. The first series from 2017 included 68 three-part sets and 50 four-part sets. In 2018, a second series of 50 three-part sets and 38 four-part set was commissioned. Production initially ended in 2022 after a total of 206 trains. These now mainly replace the SGM and DD-AR trains and are also partly used as a replacement for the ICMm type in intercity traffic.
