The T 435.0 was a light 750 hp four-axle diesel-electric locomotive built for shunting and short-distance freight trains. It was known by its nickname “Hektor” due to the sound of its engine with a maximum speed of 750 rpm. Service weight was only 61 tonnes, what resulted in an axle load of little more than 15 tonnes. It was built with a cab on one end and a narrow hood. The usual direction of traffic was with the cab on the rear.
Between 1958 and 1962, a total of 287 were built by ČKD. Only 150 of these were destined for the ČSD, which were also used for passenger services in summer. 83 were delivered to private operators and 54 were exported. Some went to the East German Reichsbahn as V 75 and others to the Soviet Union as ЧМЭ2 (CzME2). Others went to Albania and Iraq. The ČSD started to withdraw them in 1995 and today some are being used in construction trains and others at private operators.
