The DF7G is a six-axle diesel-electric locomotive built for shunting service and for short transfer and mainline services. It is being powered by a twelve-cylinder variant of the sixteen-cylinder engine that powers the DF4C mainline locomotive. From the standard types 0000 and 5000, more than 370 have been built. Very similar to the type 5000 is the type 9000 of which only four have been built for dock working. Three of the type 8000 were built as plateau type for work on the Lhasa railway. These have a more powerful 16-cylinder engine that still delivers enough power at high altitudes. More locomotives were exported to Cuba, Mongolia and Estonia.
