The LMS numbers 7080 to 7119 were 40 three-axle diesel-electric shunters built between 1939 and 1942 at Derby. They are also known as later class D3/7. Like the earlier D3/6 and the later British three-axle shunters, they had their 350 hp diesel engine and their electric equipment from English Electric. But while the others had axle-hung traction motors, the D3/7 was powered by a single traction motor that worked on a jackshaft and coupling rods. Ten came to the war department of which six were later sold to Egypt and four to Italy. The rest was numbered starting with 12000 at British Railways, but their withdrawals in the late sixties prevented them from becoming TOPS class 12.
