Since the originally planned infrastructure improvements to shorten travel times were classified as too expensive, these multiple units were developed with tilting technology. The traction equipment has many things in common with the Re 460 and is distributed over three cars at each end of the train. Thanks to the higher speeds, the SBB created the ICN train type. Compared to the previously used passenger coaches, passengers criticized the smooth running, less space and much smaller windows.
