For the 2012 European Football Championship, Ukrainian Railways ordered ten electric multiple units from Hyundai Rotem in South Korea to run between the host cities. Each train consists of nine cars, six of which have four traction motors each, what makes a total output of 6.000 kW. Since the lines in Ukraine are partly operated with direct and alternating current, the trains support both systems. In the first year of operation, a large number of failures occurred, most of which were due to hasty introduction into service and inadequate adaptation to Ukrainian winters. Although this caused serious damage to the trains' reputation in Ukraine and further orders did not follow, the problems were resolved with some adjustments. Since then, the ten sets are being used as “Intercity+”.
