The E 1250 is a class of twelve six-axle electric locomotives built by Hitachi in 1983 and 1984 for intercity service in Morocco. They had a similar body design as the E 1200 freight locomotives built in 1982. Both have windows on one side and grilles on the other side. Modifications included new bogies with suspended traction motors for a top speed of 160 km/h. A converter had been added to feed the train with 380 V three-phase AC, making it the only class of locomotives of the ONCF that did not require a generator car. Meanwhile, as more modern locomotives have been introduced and the procurement of spare parts is getting more complicated, top speed has been decreased to 140 km/h to increase the life of the locomotives.
