The G 763 C is a three-axle diesel shunter used by several German industrial and port operators. Together with its predecessor, the G 761 C, it was part of MaK's third generation of diesel locomotives. Features of this generation were fast-running engines and cabs without side doors which were only accessible through running boards. The G 763 C was powered by a six-cylinder MTU 396 with 560 kW or 760 hp. The Voith hydraulic transmission allows a top speed of 32 or 40 km/h, depending on customer requirement. The basic variant weighs 54 tonnes, but ballast weights can be used to create a service weight of up to 66 tonnes. Between 1982 and 1993, 27 locomotives were built for 15 different customers. The largest customers were the Siegener Kreisbahn and the Hanover ports with three each.
