Vulcan Foundry

In 1925, Vulcan foundry delivered five Mikados to Nigerian Railways which carried the works numbers 3783 to 3787. Their running numbers were 801 to 805. Additionally they received names, like No. 801 “Sir Hugh Clifford” that can be seen in the works photo. They featured a striking appearance with a long and sleek boiler. This included a Robinson superheater with a surface of 506 square feet, what was more than most locomotives in Britain. They had three cylinders of 18 by 28 inches which led to a starting tractive effort of more than 38,500 pounds
