In Korea, 2-6-2 locomotives (Prairie) got the prefix “Pure”. The last of these locomotives introduced by Sentetsu was the Pureha. With a driver diameter of 1,520 mm (5 feet), they were faster than their predecessors. The first twelve were built in Korea in the Gyeongsong Works and 26 more followed from Japan in 1939, built by Hitachi and Kisha Seizō with only the final assembly taking place in Korea. After World War II, these locomotives came both to North and South Korea.
